Alcatel OneTouch unveils “100% reversible” Idol 3

Idol 3 available in 4.7 inch or 5.5 versions and interface works while phone is upside down

Alcatel OneTouch has unveiled its “orientation-free” Idol 3 smartphone, which lets users pick up their phone quickly without having to check if its the right way up.

The Idol 3, which comes in either a 4.7 inch or 5.5 inch model, has a symmetrical design with a speaker and mic at each end of the phone, meaning that users can make calls even if the phone is upside down.

The interface on the Idol 3 uses the gyrometer to determine which way up the phone is being held and responds accordingly, meaning the device is fully operable no matter how it is held.

It packs a 13MP rear facing camera, with the larger device also including an 8MP front-facing “selfie” camera – the front camera on the 4.7 inch version is just 5MP.

The 5.5 inch is powered by a Snapdragon 64-bit octa-core processor while the smaller device also has a Snapdragon processor, but its only quad core.

Both run on Android 5.0. You’ll also find a 2,910mAh battery, 16GB of internal storage, microSD expansion of up to 128GB in the larger phone, but the battery is 2,000AmH in the smaller device.

The 5.5 inch Idol 3 will retail at around £259 while the 4.7 inch version will start from around £199.
